KitchenKids! Incorporated (KitchenKids!) values the relationship you have allowed us to have with your child and we take your child’s privacy and security seriously. We take special precautions to ensure your child’s protection while visiting our site and we do not permit child under the age of 13 to engage in any KitchenKids! on-line membership activities without the permission of her/his parent, guardian or teacher.
We understand that children under 13 years of age may come across our site while surfing the web. While we will do everything in our power to prevent children from giving out personally identifiable information or viewing inappropriate material, we at KitchenKids! recognize that it is the parent’s responsibility to regulate their children’s web surfing. In compliance with our registration policy and the guidelines set forth by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU), KitchenKids! is committed to protecting the privacy of each visitor who registers with us.
HERE'S AN EXPLANATION OF OUR DATA COLLECTION PROCESS.
1. Obtaining Parental Consent: Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which went into effect on April 21, 2000,
KitchenKids! requires parents to register a child aged 12 or under for KitchenKids! membership. A parent’s e-mail address
is required for all online registrations of children ages 12 and under.
2. At the same time, we ask parents to closely monitor the Internet activities of their children and to become educated on
the various Internet and software tools available to help ensure their child has a fun and satisfying on-line experience.
3. Information we collect via registration: KitchenKids! uses its best efforts to respect the privacy of its on-line visitors. All
information is collected directly on a voluntary basis and also passively, through Cookies (see below). We ask users to tell
us how they found out about KitchenKids!
4. We do not permit users to tell us their real name or postal address. Instead they are invited to create a fictitious
nickname and provide an age range, gender, zip code, City, State and Country.
HOW DO WE USE THE REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
1. KitchenKids! uses information from registered users to invite users to submit creative writing submissions and to
participate in our K.I.D.S. polls on topics related to issues concerning the general needs and interests of children ages
5-12.
2. The identifying online nicknames we require our youth members to create do not allow them to include their last names.
3. We do not ask our youth members to identify the names of their schools.
4. We will never publish the photos or e-mail address of our youth members.
5. No one can contact KitchenKids! youth or adult members on-line or off-line.
We also use registered information to obtain a better understanding of our user profile and thus tailor our activities to meet the age and gender make-up of our visitors. This information also helps us study user patterns across the country. We make available our overall number of registered users in publicity documents.
PRIVACY:
1. Under no circumstances do we share, rent or sell information about our registered users to any outside third party. All
personally identifiable information is collected for our own purposes to help us better shape our content to meet the
preferences of our audience.
2. Changing registration information: Registered users are welcome to view, change or delete their registration information
at any time. Simply go to the page using the same computer from which you initially registered.
3. We do not collect “Cookie” technology to collect non-personal information about our visitors.
4. We do not use third-party advertisements on our site. This is to ensure that our youth users are never bombarded with
online commercials or ads to buy anything.
5. We provide links to child-friendly informational/education sites that also do not use third-party advertisements on their
respective sites.
In all of the above practices, it is the intention of KitchenKids! to operate in full compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and regulations promulgated by the Federal Trade Commission. We also adhere to the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) guidelines on Internet advertising.
